For the record -- my co-workers email CONSTANTLY about the daily walk around the block, of which I normally do not participate as I have work to do. Today -- the daily request to go walking went out and was immediately canceled due to the "threatening weather." (i.e NO rain coming down, a couple claps of thunder and a few dark clouds) So -- i told them they were all "wimps" for bailing out when it wasn't raining and that they also lolly-gagged when they walked. Their walks are NO feats of "heart-pounding exercise" that they line up at thr front door for every weekday. This has become a regular "chit-chat" time while they cruise the corporate neighborhood. So -- I suggesed we do a thorough "power walk" -- the heart-pumping, gasping for breath, real calorie burner kind of walk. No takers. So I took off BY MYSELF. Two minutes into the power walk a "light drizzle" falls upon our neck of the woods. My dearest colleague, Evelyn, "The Queen" -- the ONLY Ambassador employee with a heart of compassion, revs up her red Corvette to come get me. By this time I am almost "home" and like any good umpire -- I'm going into home head first, wet hair, soggy clothes and all -- and I politely refuse Evelyn's rescue attempt as this is now a matter of principle. What you see here in this photo are my fellow Ambassadorians welcoming me back to a dry office.

Ok, now let me tell the real story. This particular day, I was the staffer who sent the walk email (we usually power around the block, working up a high-endurance sweat, hardly speaking to each other for fear of passing out). A few minutes after I sent the email, thunder could be heard in the not so far distance. Then the sky darkened and the wind picked up - it wasn't hard to figure out that a storm was rolling our way. After the second clap of thunder, I decided to cancel the walk - out of fear for the lives of my colleagues only to be met with the shigrin of Steve (who never participates anyway!). Calling us wimps, wusses, and weather-a-phobes, he heads out into the black, windy, thunderous environment and even taunts us ashe walks by. I then email the staff, wishing for a downpour to rain on Steve's parade...and not even 2 minutes later we have shear winds and a torrential downpour!!! Not knowing whether to feel bad or go out and buy a few lottery tickets, I wait to see signs of Steve rounding the bend. We all wait to see. And then finially, we see it - Steve, after snubbing off a very warm and dry gesture to ride back to the office with Evelyn, totally soaking wet and totally soaking in the applause and hoots of laughter of his fellow dry colleagues. Just another day in the office!
